How To Share Your Resources
May. 14th, 2017 05:05 pmYou've made a set of textures or brushes and now you want to share them?
First you need to decide how you're going to share your resources. You can put them all in a .zip file, or you can upload the individual image files. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
Image hosts
- A free account can upload up to 500 MB directly to Dreamwidth via the upload images link
- tinypic.com
- photobucket
- imgur.com
- imgbb.com
- postimage.io
- imageshack.us
- freeimagehosting.net
- dropbox.com
There are many, many more. Some require creating an account, some don't. Some have individual restrictions in place. If you're unsure, just try a few of them out and pick the one you can easily work with. In cases where a service doesn't require you to sign up, it's always a good idea to save the links in case you can't find your uploaded items again on the website (since you can't check images uploaded to your account if you don't actually have an account with the service).
For .zip files, you need to find a reliable host for your files.
File hosts
- dropbox.com
- mediafire.com
- box.com
- zippyshare.com
- uploaded.net
- filefactory.com
Like with image hosts, some of them place restrictions on the files you upload. Some may only be available for a short period of time. Make sure you read up on these restrictions.
Similarly, some file hosts might not work for everyone. If at all possible, be prepared to offer an alternative for those who would like to download your resources but can't access them via the host you chose.
DeviantArt
DeviantArt has been around for a long time and it's a great resource to both find art and resources and to share art and resources. You need to have an account to upload an image or .zip file, but registration is free.
DeviantArt allows you to upload a preview of your (large) image or file and you can sort your uploaded images and files into your own galleries.
If you're not sure about any of the image or file hosts, try DeviantArt.
